Segi Environment Co., Ltd inaugurated the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nepal for 'Dugong Island $8 Billion Project' in International Exhibition on Environmental Technology & Green Energy (ENVEX 2016) held in Seoul Coex from May 31st (Tue) to June 3rd (Fri).

Segi Environment Co., Ltd was founded in 1989, and focuses on clean energy and purification industry. Segi Environment is a forerunner of 'Dugong Island', a combination of water purification and solar power generation system. 'Dugong Island' has acquired 50 international intellectual property rights, in countries like Japan, China, United States, India, and Indonesia. These technological advancements were recognized in 33rd and 36th International Invention Exhibition in Geneva, winning the Gold Medal, along with Presidential New Intellectual Patent in 2005, Industrial Resource Minister's Commendation in 2006 and 2007, Prime Minister's Commendation in 2015, and many more.

'Dugong Island' combines four technologies—water purification, solar energy, artificial wetland, and artificial island. The 'Dugong Island' consists of hexagonal panels, with holes to hold 'X-band', designed to hold 57 types of microorganisms (YANM) via bio film. This is where water purification and artificial wetland technologies come in—the hexagonal structures can be combined to make a stretch of artificial wetland by simply docking the structures together, in whichever shapes the customers desire. The 'X-band' can simply purify contaminated water, and even breaks down green algae. The holes in hexagonal panels can also have vegetation to speed up the purification process.  For solar energy, solar panels are 10% more efficient on water than on land with better cooling for the solar panels—thus providing more energy needed without occupying large spaces on land. With this comes the artificial island technology, designed to fit not only solar panels, but small buildings. By stacking the hexagonal panels vertically and docking the surface horizontally, it can provide a steady base for buildings, just like an island.

Segi Environment Co., Ltd is now working with Nepal in order to expand their 'Dugong Island $8 Billion Project'—in collaboration with Nepal's Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Industry, and Ministry of Science & Technology. They have already established Segi International Pvt. Ltd in Kathmandu, Nepal. As Nepal suffered from April 2015 Nepal earthquake, Nepal has had electricity shortages, with the average use of electricity limited to less than eight hours per day. With Segi Environment Co., Ltd's idea of 'Dugong Island,' Nepal is now pushing for the greener yet more efficient energy for their energy crisis.

Segi Environment is not only focusing on Nepal, but also focusing on China. As China's economy is recovering and the population rising, China is projected to consume between 2 to 3 times more electricity in about five years. With this steep rise in need for electricity and ongoing pollution with fossil fuel, Segi Environment is aiming to launch their 'Dugong Island' project in China, starting from waterways that aren't used anymore. One small town in China has a waterway spanning over the length of 30,000 km squared, thus providing a perfect body of water for Segi Environment to carry out their 'Dugong Island' project. Segi Environment have calculated that if 1% of the 30,000 km2 waterway is installed with 'Dugong Island' along with solar panels, it would generate the same amount of energy as 30 nuclear power plants.

With 'Dugong Island' project, Segi Environment Co., Ltd. is aiming to expand their worldwide with an aim to make Earth a better place for future generation, and counteract the effect of pollution with energy consumption. They strive to be the forerunner for the new solution of eco-friendly clean energy with their vast experience and knowledge in the environmental field.

Meanwhile, ENVEX 2016 is supervised by KEPA (Korea Environmental Preservation Association) and organized by KECO (Korea Environment Corporation), SLC (SUDOKWON Landfill Site Management), KEITI (Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute), and KEPA. ENVEX 2016 is the largest trade show in the environment tech and renewable energy industry in Korea, with over 2,000 eco-friendly technologies and products on display.
